An 80-year-old man foiled a home intrusion by shooting and killing the first intruder, wounding the second, and causing the third to flee.

The “late-night” incident occurred in Fairmont, West Virginia.

Acccording to Metro News, police say 23-year-old Whitney Kabiru knocked on the elderly man’s door and asked if she could use his phone for an emergency; he let her in, only to have 28-year-0ld Larry Shaver and 28-year-old John Grossklaus storm in behind her.

Police report that Shaver and Grossklaus “threatened the victim with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded various items.” But the elderly man was prepared. He told police he brought his pistol with him when he answered the door because the knock came so late at night.

The homeowner opened fire, striking Shaver in the neck and head and striking Grossklaus in “the lower torso.” The female was able to flee without being hit.

Police arrived to find Shaver fatally wounded in the street and Grossklaus across the street nursing his wound. Kabiru was captured a short time later and arrested.

During the investigation, police determined the intruders were armed with a pellet gun.
