Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Mike Pence did not attend a campaign event in Wisconsin with House Speaker Paul Ryan on Saturday.
Pence was supposed to stand in for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at the event planned for Saturday. Pence was planning on attending as of Friday, but as of Saturday decided not to attend according to Politico, which cited a top Pence advisor. It was noted that Pence was not disinvited.
During a Friday episode of Laura Ingraham’s radio show, Ryan said: “We’re hoping for a good debate performance, and I think Donald’s going to do that,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
Ryan also suggested Trump should “pick up where Mike Pence just left off,” in Sunday night’s upcoming debate. The Chicago Tribune reported that following the Friday release of a 2005 video of Trump making lewd comments, Ryan asked Trump not to attend the Saturday rally.
