Retired Marine Gen. James Mattis will join President-elect Donald Trump on stage Tuesday at Trump’s “Thank You Tour” event in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

During Trump’s first “Thank You Tour” event last week in Ohio, he said he intended to nominate Mattis as his secretary of defense.

“We are going to appoint ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis as our secretary of defense,” Trump stated. “We aren’t announcing it until Monday, so don’t tell anybody,” the President-elect joked with the crowd. “Mad Dog. He’s great.”

The official announcement is coming on Tuesday when Mattis joins Trump on stage in North Carolina, according to Trump’s transition team.

Before heading to North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon, Trump is holding meetings with Rex Tillerson, the CEO of Exxon Mobile, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Gov. Terry Branstad of Iowa and conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham.
