Former presidential candidates Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) will debate the future of Obamacare in a live moderated debate on CNN, the network has announced.
The debate comes as Donald Trump signed an executive order last week to “ease the burden” of Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, promising a “prompt repeal” of the law as the administration moves forward.
Cruz called the repeal of Obamacare in an interview this weekend the “most exciting” policy of the new Republican administration. He confessed that that if it were up to him he would “take it out in a back alley and put two bullets in the back of its head.”
Meanwhile, Sanders, who challenged Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, ran his campaign on expanding Obamacare’s taxpayer funded healthcare system, describing healthcare as a “right not a privilege,” while promising to put “private insurance companies out of business.”
The debate, moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, takes place next Tuesday, 7th February, at 9 p.m. Eastern.
