A new ad released by Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) highlights the fact that the Second Amendment is integral to freedom and shows Brooks explaining that he will never take a position that undercuts Americans’ ability to be armed.

The ad is directed toward the liberal media and the GOP establishment. It shows Brooks being interviewed on June 14, just a short time after Congressional baseball practice was cut short by a Bernie Sanders supporter who opened fire on GOP Congressmen.

Reporters put a microphone in Brooks’ face and asked, “Does this change your views on the gun situation in America?”

Brooks responds, “The Second Amendment right to bear arms is to help ensure that we always have a Republic.” He goes on explain how silly it would be to talk about getting rid of any right simply because a Bernie Sanders supporter—or anyone else—abuses the right.

He said, “We’re not going to get rid of the freedom of speech because some people say some really ugly things and hurt other people’s feelings. These rights are there to protect Americans, and while each of them has a negative aspect to them, they are fundamental to our being the greatest nation in world history. So no, I’m not changing my position on any of the rights we enjoy as Americans.”

Brooks’ ad goes on to warn that this is time for standing one’s ground, rather than giving it up. The narrator’s voice says, “Too often, when tragedy strikes, Democrats and the liberal media blame Republicans for the deaths of innocents and use it as an opportunity to take away our Second Amendment rights.”

The narrator adds, “They blamed Sarah Palin for the Gabby Giffords’ shooting” and “they blamed the NRA for the murder of innocent children at Sandy Hook.” The ad then shows a clip of CNN’s Jake Tapper saying, “Some Democrats are blaming Republicans for selling guns to ISIS.”

Tapper’s comments perfectly illustrate Brooks’ concern that the liberal media and Democrats are two sides of the same coin, working in tandem to undermine the freedom Americans enjoy and are able to protect via the Second Amendment.

The narrator in Brooks’ ad brings things into clear focus, saying, “When Democrats and the liberal media try to undermine our Republic and try to take away our gun rights, we need tough, true conservatives who will take them on. That’s Mo Brooks. Send him to the Senate, and send a message to the liberal media: Our Second Amendment rights are not up for debate.”

In other words, we will never give up our guns.
