A witness to Friday morning’s shooting at Noblesville West Middle School says a science teacher saved an untold number of lives when he “swatted” the gun out of the attacker’s hand.

Breitbart News reported that the shooting left a 13-year-old girl and an adult in critical condition. Police took a male student into custody.

Fox59 reports that the incident occurred in a science class. A 7th grader who witnessed it said the suspected student gunman was late arriving to class, and that he opened fire on a classmate when he finally entered the room.

At that point the science teacher, Jason Seaman, “swatted” the gun away from the student suspect.

The Associated Press reports that the teacher tackled the suspected gunman after knocking the gun out of his hands. The Indy Star reports that Seaman was injured in the incident. He was rushed to the hospital, where his mother reported that he underwent surgery for three gunshot wounds.

Seaman’s mother says he is “doing well” following surgery.
