The Student Gun Violence Summit put forward a Bill of Rights calling for a ban on the sale of “weapons that fire velocity rounds.”

The Bill of Rights did not acknowledge that all bullets travel at a certain velocity. Rather, their statement was part of a larger push to ban the sale of commonly owned semiautomatic rifles in America.

The Student Gun Violence Summit was sponsored by Gabby Giffords’ gun control group, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, and Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety, among others.

Their Bill of Rights has 14 points, with No. 10 saying: “Require all gun dealers, sellers and owners to report stolen guns; prohibit the sale under the National Firearms Act (NFA) of semi-automatic military style weapons that fire velocity rounds, bump stocks and other accessories that alter the original firing capacity of a firearm.”

Note the demand to ban “accessories that alter the original firing capacity of a firearm.” In other words, if a gun came from the factory with a 10-round magazine the Student Gun Violence Summit wants a ban on using 15, 20, or 30-round magazines in that firearm.

The No. 2 point in the Student Gun Violence Summit Bill of Rights is a demand for more “qualified counselors” for schools and No. 5 seeks quarterly “de-escalation trainings…for law-enforcement.”

They additionally demand more money for poorer neighborhoods, year-round programs for “youth under 25,” universal background checks for gun sales, and nationwide implementation of court-issued gun confiscation orders.

The “Frequently Asked Questions” tab on the Student Gun Violence Summit webpage indicates the group enjoyed “professional security on site” while compiling their Bill of Rights.
