First Lady Melania Trump singled out medical workers on Monday, praising them for their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.
“I want to take a moment to thank the medical staff, doctors, nurses and first responders who are working tirelessly to help keep our country healthy and safe,” the first lady wrote on Twitter.
Medical workers are serving on the front lines of the crisis, as the country fights to contain the spread of the virus and care for those infected by the disease.
Two emergency room doctors are now in critical condition after being infected by the virus, according to the New York Times, one in Washington state and one in New Jersey.
Thousands of other workers continue caring for the sick in dangerous conditions while working long hours.
The first lady has increased her voice online to help share important advice to the American people about the pandemic.
“With our lives changed dramatically, especially in the last few days, I encourage everyone to follow CDC guidelines,” she said on Sunday. “Social distancing at this time is very important!”
Melania Trump also canceled the White House Easter Egg roll, which was scheduled for April 13.
“The health and safety of all Americans must be the first priority, especially right now,” she said in a statement. “I deeply regret this cancellation, but we need to make difficult decisions in the short-term to ensure a healthy country for the long-term.”
The first lady encouraged everyone to listen to government officials and agencies to help contain the virus.
“During this time, I encourage everyone to listen to state and local officials, and follow CDC guidelines in order to help protect the health and well-being of everyone,” she said.
