An Arlington Heights, Illinois, homeowner punched one intrusion suspect until he fled Saturday, then retrieved a gun and shot a second intrusion suspect dead.

Journal & Topics reports both suspects came to the front door of the home wearing medical masks.

WGN 9 reports the incident unfolded in broad daylight, after suspects 38-year-old Bradley Finnian and 58-year-old Larry Brodacz allegedly rang the doorbell. When the homeowner answered the door the pair allegedly pulled a gun and forced their way inside. The homeowner responded by chasing Finnian out of the home while punching him repeatedly.

Part of the confrontation was caught on home’s doorbell camera:

The Chicago Sun-Timesreports the homeowner came back inside after Finnian fled, only to find that Brodacz was allegedly holding the homeowner’s wife and two children at gun point. The homeowner then retrieved a gun from a safe and shot Brodacz, killing him.

Police said, “Fearing for his life and the lives of his wife and children, the homeowner discharged a round from the family handgun, striking Mr. Brodacz in the abdomen.”
