On Tuesday, San Francisco mayor Ed Lee, the liberal Democrat, referred to Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry as “Steve” Curry while presenting the basketball player a key to the city.
“You give Steve Curry an “inch” and he might take a Golden State mile,” he said.
In fairness, he referred to Stephen Curry rightfully as “Steph” numerous times throughout the speech, but screwed up during one of the most important parts.
Other liberal mayors–like Boston’s Thomas Menino–have been ridiculed for mispronouncing the names of prominent sports stars.
