Georgetown forward Greg Whittington has suffered a knee injury, confirmed by multiple media reports, and may be required to miss time depending on the severity of the injury.

Whittington, spotted on crutches around the Georgetown campus, injured the knee during practice last week. The extent of the injury is not yet known, however.

Casualhoya.com reports that it may be a knee sprain, a torn meniscus, or a torn ACL. A knee sprain would require just rest to heal. A torn meniscus could heal on itw own, or could be repaired with surgery, as Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook elected this year. In either of these scenarios, Whittington would be back in time for the coming season.

A torn ACL would require surgery to repair and Whittington would likely miss the entire 2013-14 season.

With Whittington expected to return to the team following academic suspension in 2013, the Hoyas were expected to top the new-look Big East in its inaugural year next season. They return all players with significant playing time except likely NBA lottery pick Otto Porter.

Coach John Thompson III won Big East Coach of the Year and Otto Porter won Player of the Year as the Hoyas won the Big East Regular Season title in 2012-13.
