The most exciting action right now is the AL Wildcard race, where both the Indians (+13 above .500), and Rangers (+12) got shutouts, to get a slight cushion over the Orioles (+10), who lost 2-3 to the Mariners. Every game was within four runs Sunday except for the Cardinals (+20) 15-2 blowout of the Reds (+10), which would be the one-game NL wildcard game if the playoffs started today.

The Pirates and Red Sox both won to stay tied for the best record in baseball (+23), but both have only a tiny lead in their division over the Cardinals and Rays (+21) respectively. All four teams have huge cushions to make the playoffs, but the two second place teams will have to host a dangerous one-game playoff against the other wild card team. The White Sox (-29) could draw a big crowd Monday as they try to avoid joining the Astros at 30 games below .500 – but the crowd will more likely be there to see Alex Rodriguez return for what could be one of his last games.

The Braves (+22) and Dodgers (+12) are virtual locks to win their divisions after winning again Sunday, while the Tigers (+19, 3 game lead over Indians) and A’s (+17, 2 ½ game lead over a Rangers team that may lose their big slugger Monday also lead. The only other three teams with a winning record are several games back, with the Royals (+4) beating the Mets, to catch the Yankees (+4), who lost to the Padres. The Diamondbacks (+1) 4-0 loss to the Red Sox continued their fade against the red hot Dodgers, who won their 14th straight road game to pull within three wins of the 97-year-old record set by their rivals the Giants, then in New York.
