Come April 2014, when discussions about the NFL Draft are in full swing, much of the talk will be about the need for the NFL’s lowliest to snag a quarterback in the hopes of rejuvenating their franchise. According to NFL.com’s Michael Silver, however, the greater need might be for the Bengals and the Texans whom he believes will not be able to take the next step without a new signal caller.

There is no denying that Schaub and Dalton are, at best, mediocre quarterbacks. Schaub cost his team a victory against the Seahawks and Dalton could only lead the Cincy offense to a paltry six points against the lowly Cleveland Browns.

Fans have already begun expressing disappointment in Schaub as signs for his release–and the burning of his jersey is already taking place. The Bengals, meanwhile, were Silver’s pick to win the AFC and have tremendous talent, outside of the quarterback position, on both sides of the ball.

“Most people who watched Schaub and Dalton play on this particular Sunday, however, received a cold, hard dose of reality,” Silver concluded.

The 2014 quarterback draft class is very highly regarded, much more so than the much-maligned 2013 version that included NFL starters Geno Smith, E. J. Manuel, and Mike Glennon. It is headlined by Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville), Brett Hundley (UCLA), and Tajh Boyd (Clemson).
