David Ortiz heads into Game 6 of the World Series with an opportunity for his third championship in 10 seasons.

The Boston Red Sox slugger also has a chance to set a record for the highest batting average in a single series. Ortiz is hitting .733 after going 11 for 15. The record of .750 was set by Billy Hatcher of the Cincinnati Reds in a four-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics in 1990. Ortiz also has 11 hits, two shy of the record in a single World Series.

Ortiz went 3 for 4 with a run-scoring double and two singles in a 3-1 win Monday night in St. Louis that gave the Red Sox a 3-2 series lead.

They can win the Series at home Wednesday night when John Lackey faces the Cardinals’ Michael Wacha. If necessary, a seventh game would be at Fenway Park on Thursday night.
