Sunday’s NFL game between the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens at Soldier Field has been temporarily suspended after it started because of a severe tornado watch. Fans were advised to take shelter in the nearest covered concourse and players and coaches left the field. A tornado has already touched down in Peoria, Illinois and the storm cell that the National Weather Service said was “extraordinarily rare” is headed toward Chicago.

A message on the stadium scoreboard read:

Attention: Please clear the stadium seating area and relocate to the nearest covered concourse

Baltimore was leading 10-0 in the first quarter.

The National Weather Service had tweeted that the “worst decision” people could make on Sunday would be to “ignore” a severe tornado warning
