Football–college and professional–is king. The BCS title game and the AFC Divisional Playoff game were the highest rated programs in all of television last week.

According to Nielsen, for the week of Jan. 6-12, the AFC Divisional Playoffs between Indianapolis and New on CBS got 31.69 million viewers to come in first. The BCS Championship between Florida State and Auburn on ESPN was second, with 25.57 million viewers.

The BCS title game was the highest rated program on cable television for that week. In an age of fragmentation, live sports, especially football, are a proven source for massive ratings.
