A sprint-car racer died on a Wisconsin track after colliding with another driver during a practice session on Saturday.

Scott Semmelmann crashed into another sprint car and reportedly flipped multiple times before slamming into the wall. The accident occurred on the .33 mile clay track at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin at 5:58 p.m. The decedent was 47.

The track and the race promoter decided to cancel the rest of the program. “Fans, drivers and crew members were offered an opportunity for a refund,” informs a statement from the track, “but had the option to donate the money to the family, which most did.”

Semmelmann’s accident follows Kevin Ward Jr.’s death last month during a sprint-car race in upstate New York. Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart struck Ward after the 20-year-old driver confronted on foot the more experienced racer under a caution flag necessitated by a collision of their vehicles.
