Australian tennis player apologized to Swiss player Stan Wawrinka due to a lewd and disgusting remark about the French Open’s alleged new girlfriend. The ATP responded with a fine.
The two faced each other in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal on Thursday. After a play, Kyrgios said, “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend.”
Wawrinka, 30, reportedly dates 19-year-old Donna Vekic of Croatia. She played mixed doubles with Thanasai Kokkinakis.
On-court reporters asked why Kyrgios said the vulgar comment.
But a video shows the trash talking started in the first set.
Wawrinka did not hear the comment until after the match. He retired in the third due to a back injury. He expressed his disgust on Twitter.
Kyrgios took to Facebook to apologize to his opponent.
ATP fined Kyrgios $10,000 for his actions.
Kyrgios received a $10,000 fine at Wimbledon for swearing too loudly on court and destroying his racket.
