A a man who lost his younger brother lost his television and much else when criminals capitalized on his absence to attend a memorial.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers mourned Sam Foltz by letting his nephews lead the team through the tunnel onto the field and by lining up in a 10-man punt formation minus the fallen punter in the opening quarter of their 43-10 victory on Saturday. The referees called a delay of game penalty. Fresno State kept it classy and declined it.

But back in Foltz’s hometown of Greeley, Nebraska, criminals kept it decidedly despicable. As the punter’s brother’s family traveled to Lincoln to attend the tribute, burglars took advantage of their absence. They stole about $1,400 worth of tools, electronics, and other items from Jordan Foltz’s house and car.

Sam Foltz’s brother Jordan writes:

These past few weeks have been some of the most hard, tiring, emotional and trying times I’ve ever ran up against in my thirty years on this earth as I lost a friend a role model and most importantly a brother. And tonight as we celebrated and mourned my brother for all he accomplished in his career as a Person a Nebraskan and a Husker in Lincoln some (s–t bag) was back here in our home town breaking into my house and my vehicles probably seeing our family as a easy target as we were all in Lincoln. So if you seen any vehicles around my house/driveway that would have been there after dark or during and after the game please let us know. We lost a insignia flat screen tv right out of our living room and blue point and snap on tools out of my jeep outside. I hope as a group we can find theses creeps!

Sam Foltz died in a nighttime automobile accident on slick roads in Wisconsin along with former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler during a torrential downpour in July. The pair, and a third collegian injured in the crash, worked as instructors at a Wisconsin camp for kickers and punters.

“I’m a walk on who wasn’t recruited,” Foltz, whose Twitter bio noted “follower of Jesus” in its first line, posted the week of his death. “I’m not entitled to anything, all I do is put my head down and work.”
