As the city and state reel from a night of destructive rioting in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Carolina Panthers have admitted they are considering moving this Sunday’s game away from Bank of America Stadium if the unrest continues in the city.

Panthers President Danny Morrison released a statement on Thursday, September 22, saying the team is monitoring the situation, Fox 46 reported.

“We are in contact with government officials, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the NFL,” the statement said. “We are continuing to monitor events as we prepare for Sunday’s home game.”

For its part, the NFL said it intends the game to continue as scheduled. But the league also noted it was keeping an eye on the rioting.

“We are monitoring events in Charlotte and have been in communication with local officials and authorities, and both the Carolina Panthers and the Minnesota Vikings,” the NFL said.

Several sports have been already affected by the rioting. ESPN reports that the NASCAR Hall of Fame situated in downtown Charlotte was damaged during the riots and the store for the Charlotte Hornets was destroyed, as well.
