Walt Weiss opted to step down as manager of the Colorado Rockies after four losing seasons.
Weiss finished the 2016 campaign with a 75-87 record, which actually marked the high point in wins during his tenure. The manager’s contract expired at the end of this season. He completes his stint with a 283-365 record. The team has never won the National League West and this season’s finish in third marked the franchise’s best since prior to Weiss’s arrival.
The laid-back Weiss enjoyed a solid relationship with players but a strained one with the club’s general manager.

“Weiss was named the Rockies manager on Nov. 7, 2012,” the team noted in a statement. “In four seasons, he compiled a 283-365 record, including a 75-87 mark in 2016. His hiring as manager marked his third stint with the Rockies, as he played four seasons for Colorado (1994-97) and was special assistant to the general manager for seven seasons (2002-08).”
