Navy beat Houston on Saturday. That means no classes in Annapolis on Tuesday.

“No classes Tuesday!” the service academy posted on social media. “The Supe gave the mids liberty in celebration of our win over Houston! Pep rally Tuesday night! #GoNavy.”

Navy beat the Houston 46-40 this weekend. The Cougars entered the game undefeated and ranked six. They looked like a possible playoff team. Then the United States Navy got through with them.

Turnovers and special teams play propelled Navy to victory. The Midshipmen blacked an extra point and Houston watched a snap fly past the punter and through the end zone. Navy scored 17 points off turnovers.

The United States Naval Academy last beat a top-ten team at home when the Midshipmen called Ronald Reagan their commander in chief. The 3-5-1 Midshipmen upset #2 South Carolina in 1984 shortly before Thanksgiving. With the Columbus Day holiday, Tuesday’s day off extends the revelry into a four-day weekend.
