A familiar refrain by now, but the Heisman Trophy remains Lamar Jackson’s to lose.

Jalen Hurts, JT Barrett, Jabrill Peppers, and Kamryn Pettway all have major rivalry games with potential playoff implications on the horizon that could shake things up. Still, it is unlikely anything in those games could allow these standouts to overtake Jackson.

10. RB Kamryn Pettway (Auburn)—A case was building for Pettway, but he was injured against Vanderbilt and he needs a big final three games. His weak TD numbers (seven) place even greater importance on big games against UGA and Alabama.

9. RB Donnel Pumphrey (San Diego State)—Pumphrey had his second lowest output of the season against Hawaii. While he should pass DeAngelo Williams and Tony Dorsett on the all-time rushing list, it looks unlikely that he can vie for the top spot.

8. RB D’onta Foreman (Texas)—Foreman has been a driving force behind the 5-4 Longhorns. He is putting up monster numbers that deserve consideration for the Heisman chatter building behind the big back.

7. ATH Jabrill Peppers (Michigan)—Jim Harbaugh and others are campaigning for Peppers, one of the most dynamic players in the country. As the best player on one of the nation’s best teams, Peppers is intriguing but may lack the stats to get an invite.

6. QB Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma)—Mayfield was key late in the season for the Sooners last year and has been once again in 2016. Still, it may not be enough for an invite.

5. QB Jalen Hurts (Alabama)—It was not a pretty game for the freshman signal caller, but he did manage to put his team ahead and ultimately win their toughest game against rival LSU. He has done enough to merit continued consideration for an invite.

4. QB JT Barrett (Ohio State)—It has been an up and down season for Barrett who, with Michigan on the horizon, may be in the best position to make a move. He led his team to a demolition of top ten Nebraska.

3. QB Jake Browning (Washington)—At this point, it would be surprising if Browning were excluded from the ceremony. The QB had a breakout performance over Cal.

2. QB Deshaun Watson (Clemson)—Watson did not have to do much in the win against Syracuse, but he needed to do more in order to remain viable in the Heisman race. The Clemson QB’s chances are significantly less this year than at the same time in 2015.

1. QB Lamar Jackson (Louisville)—Putting together yet another seven-touchdown performance gives Jackson what will likely be an insurmountable lead in the Heisman race. It will take a major collapse for him to lose at this point.
