Islamic State Burns ‘Blasphemous’ Christian Books in Mosul

The U.S. State Department is currently facing pressure to formally recognize the purge of Christians from Iraq and Syria as genocide. The Islamic State added to the mountain of evidence against it by releasing a video that shows hundreds of Christian books burned in the captive city of Mosul.

Yazidi artist Ammar Salim, 31, uses his talent to show the world what the Yazidis suffer under the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/Daesh). His paintings tell the story of the Yazidi massacres. “I want to connect all that happened, to explain about the Yazidi genocide,” he explained to Rudaw.

Kurds Acknowledge the Armenian Genocide and Their Role In It

The hundredth anniversary of the Armenian genocide caused many world leaders to blink, notably President Barack Obama, who abandoned his old campaign promises–and fiery criticism of the Bush administration–by refusing to acknowledge it. Much of this moral cowardice emanates from Western politicians who wish to curry favor with the Turkish government. The Turks have been trying to erase the genocide from history, shortly after they gave up trying to erase the Armenians from history.

Calling a Genocide a Genocide

This week the world is marking the gruesome 100th anniversary of events that took lives of some 1.5 million of Turkey’s Armenians. The Ottoman Empire was falling apart, fighting as one of the Axis powers in WW1, fearful of its Christian minorities and their possibly joining the Allied effort led by Czarist Russia to liberate them.

Turkish Pride in the Armenian Genocide

As if on safari, the hunters proudly display their dead prey. But the circa 1915 photograph depicts an undeniable horror. The hunters flank a dozen or so human bodies, laid out upon a dirt mound. The distinctive hunters’ uniforms identify them as Turkish soldiers of the Ottoman Empire; their victims are Armenian Christians.

Armenian Community Cheers Pope for Acknowledging Genocide

Pope Francis took a brave leap forward on Sunday, risking backlash from the Turkish government, when he spoke out against the Armenian genocide that took place almost 100 years ago at the hands of Ottoman Turks. Members of California’s over 200,000-strong Armenian community rejoiced at his courage to name and condemn the genocide.

Kenyan Police Official: Garissa Attack Victims Died ‘Like Cockroaches’

Senior Kenyan police official Pius Masai Mwachi has become the target of national disgust this week after implying that victims of the Garissa University terror attack that left 148 dead had not fought back sufficiently against the Al-Shabaab terrorists storming the campus. “Free yourself as soon as possible. Get out. Don’t just be killed like cockroaches,” he said.
