Snapchat has been forced to remove a filter following a backlash where the company was accused of promoting “racist stereotypes.”

The filter in question was designed to depict an Eastern Asian man, by contorting the users face, so that the became eyes slanted whilst the teeth became larger.

Snapchat offers a range of filters, including a range of animals, effects and general face contortions.

However politically correct users have reacted to the new Asian filter, with many describing it as racist.

Responding to the claims, Snapchat said in a statement: “This anime-inspired lens has already expired and won’t be put back into circulation.”

“Lenses are meant to be playful and never to offend,” it continued.
