In protest against President Trump’s immigration order, students at Bucknell chose to shame one of the school’s most prominent alumni for supporting Trump in last year’s presidential election.
Outside of the Elaine Langone Center, which serves as the student center, students covered the sidewalk in chalk to protest the recent immigration order from President Trump. The building is named after Elaine Langone, the spouse of Bucknell alumnus Ken Langone, who is best known as the co-founder of The Home Depot.
Langone, who graduated from Bucknell University in 1957, is frequently seen on television as a commentator on political and business issues. He was a vocal supporter of Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign.
Students at Bucknell expressed concerned over the influence of Trump-voting donors immediately following Trump’s election during a protest event that included a walkout and a demand that the university adopt a “sanctuary campus” status.
“The administration works closely with donors (many of whom are open Trump-supporters) which makes it especially difficult for them to respond to the needs of students as in doing so they risk losing support of their major donation incomes,” the student protesters wrote in November.
