A 22-month-old boy that went missing in Magoffin County, Kentucky, has been found alive after three days. He was located on a cliff edge near a strip mine just 2,000 feet from his home.
LEX18 Kentucky reports that a toddler from Magoffin County that disappeared Sunday evening has been found alive not far from his home following a multi-agency search. The 22-month-old boy named Kenneth Neil Howard went missing around 7:30 pm on Sunday and was found around 2:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon less than 2,000 feet from his home.
According to Kentucky State Police, the case is still under investigation, but the boy was found “in the area of a strip mine in Floyd County,” near the border of Magoffin County.
The boy was taken to a local hospital for examination but is reported to be unharmed aside from signs of dehydration. Police and rescue teams centered their search around Kentucky Highway 7 near the Magoffin and Floyd County line. Several agencies were involved in the search, with helicopters, K-9 units, and drones all used in efforts to locate the young boy.
Search teams reportedly heard the young boys cries while looking for him and tracked him to the bottom of a 50-foot incline. Rescue teams used a basket and a rope to save the child. The boy’s father had offered a $5,000 reward for the safe return of his son. A Facebook post from the Magoffin County Sheriff Department can be seen below:
