Desperately spinning on behalf of President Obama‘s huge lie that Americans who liked their health insurance plans could keep them, CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta told Piers Morgan on Tuesday night that it was no big deal if Americans lost their insurance plans.

“I think with regard to this idea of keeping the plans… this is another example of the message really having been not properly, uh, given,” Gupta admitted. Then he went on: “The number one cause of bankruptcy in the United States is medical bills, and a large part of that is because there are really bad plans out there. I think this is a little bit of a red herring. And if you look at the numbers, this is a relatively small portion of the population that we’re talking about.”

Gupta then suggested that plans Americans liked were Pintos, and the plans President Obama wanted to push them into were Ferraris – one of the left’s favorite talking points in the aftermath of the broken promise. The plans Americans had cancelled, Gupta said, were just “not good plans,” as though he were the sole arbiter of healthcare plan quality.
