CNN pulled its support for the 2015 National Association of Black Journalists’ (NABJ) Convention & Career Fair after the NABJ criticized the network this week for its lack of diversity on air and in its executive ranks after a string of recent layoffs. NABJ expressed concerns that high-profile black anchors like Suzanne Malveau were not anchoring while senior producers have been laid off. In addition, the organization noted that a former CNN writer/producer has sued CNN for $5 million, alleging “discrimination and wrongful termination.”

After the NABJ said it was “concerned about the atmosphere for African Americans at CNN,” the network “contacted NABJ President Bob Butler and informed him the association’s request for support was denied.” CNN has been a long-time supporter of the association’s Career Fair.

“I understand the company has a right to make personnel decisions,” Butler said in a Friday statement. “There were not that many African American managers at CNN in the first place. These layoffs have hurt our members tremendously. I am severely disappointed that CNN has ended our partnership.”

CNN has been under fire for its treatment of black employees. Breitbart News’ John Nolte noted CNN’s treatment of its black employees has been beyond hypocritical since “CNN is always the first network to pour gasoline on any fire with shrill, divisive, and destructive screams of racism. Facts be damned. And yet, within its own glass house, and for nearly two years now, the leftwing network just can’t seem to satisfy critics like the NABJ, even though both are institutional soul-mates of the Left.

“Maybe it’s time we have a national conversation about CNN’s treatment of its black employees. And it’s long past time the Department of Justice get involved,” Nolte recently wrote.

It looks like CNN just can’t take the heat. The network certainly seems like it can’t receive as good as it tries to dish out.

NABJ, established in 1975, is “the largest organization for journalists of color in the nation” and “provides career development, educational support and other services to its members worldwide.”

CNN, which never ceases to lecture Americans and conservatives about “diversity” while finding any way to play up the race card, does not seem to want more black journalists in the mainstream media pipeline.

This is today’s CNN–petty and hypocritical.
