EDINBURG, Texas–The unofficial boss of the Gulf Cartel has been arrested in Texas followingwing a large raid.

Juan Francisco Tamez Saens was arrested Thursday night in the city of Edinburg which is just 12 miles north of the border with Mexico, law enforcement sources told Breitbart Texas.

Tamez Saez, who went by the name “Comandante 103 or Comandante Panochitas,” had inherited the leadership of the Gulf Cartel following the arrests of leaders Mario “Pelon” or X-20″ Ramirez and Juan Manuel “Perros” Rodriguez. Both Ramiez and Rodriguez were arrested in Mexico in recent months.

Tamez Saenz had been a regional commander in the area just south of Starr County. In recent months, however, he moved his command to Reynosa and surrounding areas to avoid capture and try to keep the Gulf Cartel together amid a wave of infighting.

Law enforcement sources close to Breitbart Texas confirmed the arrest however details of the raid were not readily available.

The charges against the man come from the Eastern District of Texas in Beaumont. Tamez is expected to be initialed at the federal courthouse in McAllen before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos before being transferred to Beaumont.
