Two Alabama schools were put on lockdown Monday after several social media posts and a phoned-in threat warned that clowns might show up at the schools.

A student reported to a school resource officer in Irondale that a Facebook post talked about the possibility of clowns showing up at Shades Valley High School. The threat turned out to be false, Officer James Lewis said to AL.com.

Holy Family Cristo Rey High School in Ensley received a call that a clown was coming to lure children into the woods, police said.

Police found nothing, said Sgt. Bryan Shelton to AL.com.

Police say they have received more false reports of clown sightings than actual clown sightings, and people have been getting into trouble for making these false reports.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests of a 22-year-old woman and two minors for posting under “Flomo Klown” that clowns would be coming to area schools to threaten children.

The postings led to school-wide lockdowns in Escambia County northeast of Mobile, AL.com reported.

Nationwide, there have been clown sightings in multiple states.

Several towns in Georgia reported threats of clown sightings by schools earlier this month, while one apartment complex in South Carolina reported clown sightings in the woods near the complex.
