Last Friday, someone named Anna Wintour starred in a fundraising video for the Obama campaign promoting your opportunity to have dinner with her (Wintour is the editor-in-chief of Vogue, if you must know), actress Sarah Jessica Parker, and President and Mrs. Obama.

Watch the video – it’s something of a hoot. Wintour is famous for her large office, which is figured prominently:

–

It’s all so very sophisticated and monied, no?  Very foofoo, jet-set, and refined — in that above-it-all Upper West Side kind of way.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, on the same day Obama was using his tippy-top 1% to raise money because 90% of everyday folks have pretty much bailed on him, unemployment rose to 8.2%, job growth dropped to its lowest level in a year, and Wall Street wiped out all its 2012 gains, taking much of the 99%’s 401K plans with it.

Even the New York Times knocked Obama for his tone deafness.

Once again, proving how deft and ready they are this year, the RNC released a terrific response ad this morning:

 –

In the opening paragraph I wasn’t so much making fun of the fact that no one knows who Anna Wintour is as much as I was making a point about how elitist and out-of-touch the Obama campaign is. I’ll guarantee you, 90% of American voters have absolutely no clue who the editor of Vogue is — which isn’t a knock on voters. Vogue is an upscale fashion magazine with a monthly circulation of 1.25 million.

Why in the world would anyone know or care who the editor is of a magazine that less than 1% of the population reads?

Well, Obama cares, because this is the same Anna Wintour who hosts $35,000 a plate fundraisers and puts on creepy Dear Leader fashion shows for the The One. So it’s probably a good idea to make her feel like she’s part of the team.

The whole thing is ridiculous, and the RNC rightly brought it down to earth. People are suffering under Obama’s economy, and dangling dinner with Your Elite Betters like a carrot in order to get the fundraising mules to move, is pretty pathetic.
