We’re learning more about Aaron Sorkin’s creative process than most of us needed to know.

Sorkin, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind The Social Network and The West Wing, is putting the finishing touches on season two of his HBO progressive drama The Newsroom.

It hasn’t been easy.

The Hollywood Reporter says Sorkin, a former cocaine abuser, asked for a second chance after starting the new season, a costly request that was apparently granted by his HBO bosses. The report also tells us Sorkin still thinks his show doesn’t have an agenda, a fact rebuked repeatedly by Breitbart News last year, and that he takes up to six showers in a single day.

The Newsroom, which starts its second season July 14, follows an idealized show led by a RINO anchor played by Jeff Daniels. This season promises to tackle Occupy Wall Street, the 2012 presidential campaign and the Trayvon Martin case.
