Jared Leto earned kudos, and deservedly so, for speaking on behalf of people in Venezuela and the Ukraine during his Best Supporting Actor speech earlier this month.

The Dallas Buyers Club star could have left it at that.

Instead, he took his band 30 Seconds to Mars to Kiev this week and kept rallying the country during its current crisis with Russia. The actor waived the Ukraine flag and shouted “Glory to Ukraine” in the middle of his group’s concert, an overt act to support the country’s pro-western independence movement.

You know, you guys are in the midst of something really beautiful and it may be difficult but there’s no price too high for the privilege of owning yourself, and I want to let you know, I understand other bands have canceled their shows but there was no fucking way 30 Seconds to Mars wasn’t going to be here in this beautiful city and this great country to share this with you all,” Leto said.

Both Depeche Mode and Aerosmith have canceled concerts in the country in recent weeks.
