Snickers said it will give away 1 million candy bars if the company is able to change the date of Halloween to the last Saturday in October.

The company tweeted the link to a petition by the Halloween & Costume Association on Saturday, encouraging candy bar lovers to join the movement.

“A Thursday Halloween? Not Satisfying. Halloween on the last Saturday of October? Satisfying. If the Fed Govt makes it official, we’ll offer 1 million free SNICKERS to America. Join the petition!” the tweet read.

In 2018, the Halloween & Costume Association, a nonprofit organization, started a petition to change the date of Halloween and make the holiday safer and longer for participants.

“With your support, we will create a safer, longer, bigger celebration for ALL by making National Trick or Treat Day official!” the organization wrote.

The petition stated that 3,800 Halloween-related injuries occur each year and encouraged parents and children to take safety precautions when trick-or-treating.

“63% of children don’t carry a flashlight while they are trick-or-treating. Grab a clip-on light if they don’t want to carry one! Children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween. Discuss safety, pre-plan a route, stay on sidewalks and use crosswalks,” the petition said.

The organization believes moving the official day of trick-or-treating to the last Saturday in October will also increase fesitivites across the country, Delish.com reported.

“National Trick or Treat Day will take place annually on the last Saturday of October so families across the country can participate in community parades, throw neighborhood parties and opt for daytime Trick or Treating,” the petition said, adding that “We will launch the #ALLoween campaign designed to support the all-day celebration of National Trick or Treat Day AND the time-honored traditions of Halloween on October 31st.”

Skittles, Twix, and M&M’s also retweeted the initial tweet by Snicker’s, encouraging followers to sign the petition.

“We signed it twice. Your turn,” Twix wrote on Saturday.

Despite experiencing some push back from social media users who do not want the date changed, the petition has so far garnered 129,114 signatures of their 150,000 goal.
