JERUSALEM (AFP) – Two Israelis were stabbed in Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, with one of them seriously wounded, and the Palestinian attacker was shot dead, the Israeli police and army said.

An initial statement from the military said the stabbing occurred at a settlement near Hebron, but authorities later clarified that it was inside the city.

Hebron has been a flashpoint in more than two months of Palestinian knife, gun and car-ramming attacks. Tensions between Israeli settlers living under heavy military guard in the heart of the city and Palestinian residents have been high.
