Gunman Opens Fire in French Newspaper Office, Seriously Injures One

PARIS, Nov. 18 (UPI) —

A man armed with a rifle entered the lobby of the French leftist newspaper Liberation Monday and opened fire, injuring an employee before he fled, police said.

Police said the victim, an assistant photographer, was struck in the abdomen and chest, and was listed in critical condition at a Paris hospital, the newspaper said.

Police said the intruder fired a shotgun.

Liberation Managing Editor Fabrice Rousselot expressed outrage that “individuals can go after the press.”

Police said it wasn’t clear whether Monday’s incident was related to a man entering the BFM-TV facilities in Paris and threatening journalists before fleeing, Radio France Internationale reported.
