Apparently in complete and utter denial of reality, Barack Obama’s campaign deputies seem to think that most Americans are simply dying to meet their candidate. Check out their latest missive to the masses, headlined in true internet troll style, “SO COOL”:

Benjamin —

Have you ever gotten to do something so cool you’re almost jealous of yourself?

Pretty sure this would count: On August 12th, just three weeks before the Democratic National Convention and 12 weeks before Election Day, President Obama will have a few friends over to mark his 51st birthday — in the backyard of his Chicago home.

And you’re invited.

Make a donation today of $3 or whatever you can to be automatically entered for a chance to be there — flight and hotel paid for.

Look, campaigns are hard work, both for the President and the millions of people like you who are building it on the ground. When you factor in the ridiculous amounts of money the Romney campaign and pro-Romney super PACs are raising, we’re going to have to work even harder to win than we did in 2008.

Let’s have some fun together before the final push to Election Day.

Hope to see you there,

Obama for America

First off, we’re not really invited. If I showed up, I’m fairly certain Secret Service would escort me from the premises – even if I gave $3 to Obama’s campaign. So when my good friend Rufus suggests that we’re going to “have some fun together before the final push to Election Day,” he’s just lying. But more ridiculous than the campaign’s continuous assertions that you – yes, you! – are invited to Obama’s birthday party, is the notion that attending Obama’s 51st is “so cool you’re almost jealous of yourself.” What does that even mean? Is it English?

Welcome to the Obama campaign, where the fawning and drooling surpasses the capacity of rational human language.
