On Saturday, an unnamed concealed carry permit holder witnessed an alleged carjacking and shot and killed the suspect to the save a woman whom the suspect had pulled from the car.

The incident took place in the parking lot of a Macey’s grocery store in Orem, Utah.

According to Fox 13, events leading to carjacking began to unfold around 10:45 a.m., when police were called to the Summit Ridge Apartment Complex for a fight. Five suspects, three women and two men, fled the scene in a vehicle with police in pursuit.

The pursuit stopped momentarily when the suspects struck a curb and exited the vehicle. One of the male suspects allegedly stole a pickup truck from a nearby home and drove to “Macey’s [on] 800 N. State Street.” Once there, he allegedly “abandoned the truck and went to steal another vehicle in the parking lot.” It was approximately 11:18 a.m.

Orem Police Captain Ned Jackson said: “Subject gets out of the truck, goes over and pulls the lady out of the silver Mercedes, starts to get in the car, she’s screaming for help.”

The incident caught the attention of a 31-year-old old shopper with a concealed carry permit.

Captain Jackson said: “Our citizen goes up at gun point, has [the suspect] get out of the car, the guy gets out of the car. The suspect lunged and tried to get the gun from him, so at that point he’s trying to protect himself and shoots the gentleman.”

The suspect was struck once and died at a local hospital.
