On July 5, a 74-year-old man who was allegedly accosted by two teenagers while getting into his car in downtown Nashville was able to turn the tables on the suspects by opening fire, leaving one hospitalized.

According to WSMV, Larry Dean Claybaker was getting into his car around 10 p.m. when the teens approached. They “allegedly took his cellphone and told him to get out of his car, which is when Claybaker reached into his pocket and pulled out a semi-automatic pistol, firing one round at each suspect.”

One of the suspects then fled, but the second, a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound to his stomach, remained. Claybaker held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

The teen who was shot in the stomach “will be charged with robbery at juvenile court when he is released from the hospital.”

Claybaker faces no charges, as it was determined he acted in self-defense. He has a concealed carry permit.
