The DC Republican Party held an event Monday evening with keynote speaker GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson. The event featured a presidential straw poll where Carson was the winner.

Republican National Committee Co-Chair Sharon Day was also a special guest. Fellow 2016 presidential candidates and campaign officials were also invited to attend the event.

The Chairman of the DC Republican Party José Cunningham said:

Next year the DC Republican Party will hold a state convention to select 16 voting Delegates to the Republican National Convention. This straw poll could provide some indication as to how District Republicans will vote. We are grateful presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson agreed to serve as our keynote. I cannot think of a better speaker for America’s only urban Republican state party straw poll than someone who was raised in Detroit, and whose highly successful medical career in Baltimore raised him to great prominence.

Prior to the event, DC GOP Executive Director Patrick Mara said, “DC Republicans are ready for an exciting night celebrating the 2016 election and making their voices heard.”

The straw poll results were as follows:

Dr. Ben Carson – 44%

Jeb Bush – 17%

Marco Rubio – 11%

Scott Walker – 7%
