An unidentified man in Mason County, Washington, called law enforcement Friday morning to report that he had shot individuals in his home, according to police. He then walked outside and killed himself amid negotiations with police.

The man called law enforcement Friday morning, but at least one neighbor reports hearing shots on Thursday night.

According to The Seattle Times, Mason County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Ryan Spurling said the man called and said he had shot a woman, two kids, and a fourth person. Spurling said SWAT had the house surrounded by 10 a.m. and negotiated with the man, who eventually shot and killed himself in front of police.

KING 5/Associated Press report a 12-year-old girl survived and was found at the scene. She is “believed to be related to the shooting victims.” The girl was “not seriously injured,” and investigators are looking to her in order to gather some understanding of what took place and why.
