On March 17 a man eating a Whataburger sandwich in the restaurant’s parking lot opened fire on two suspects who allegedly “tried to rob him,” killing one.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in Dallas, Texas.

Fox 4 reports that the Whataburger customer was an off-duty security guard who had his pistol with him. The men allegedly approached him in the parking lot while he was eating and he shot and killed one. The second supsect fled.

The San Antonio Express reports that police confirmed this scenario in an email, writing, “Two suspects approached the armed security guard at around 1:00 a.m. Thursday at the Whatburger location at 5500 Lemmon Avenue in Dallas. At least one of the suspects tried to rob the guard at gunpoint” and was subsequently shot dead.

The deceased suspect was 19-years old.

According to Fox 4, Police believe they “have since detained a man who is possibly the second suspect.” Police have not released the name of the deceased suspect but they confirm that “he did have a pistol.”
