Congressional candidate Brian Mast, an Army staff sergeant who gave both his legs serving with Special Forces in Afghanistan, told SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon on Tuesday’s Breitbart News Daily that the Orlando shooter lived in his district, and there are terrorists among us now.

“The terrorist from Orlando lived in my hometown of Fort Pierce,” said the combat veteran, who in May graduated with a bachelors from Harvard University. Mast is running for an open seat in Florida’s 18th congressional district.

“This is something that really struck close to home for people in my district to really be able to see these folks that want to make Main Street America their new battlefield,” he said.

“I spent about 12 years in the U.S. Army, and I was a bomb technician at our highest level of special operations — right up until the day I found one bomb too many and lost two legs and a finger,” Mast said. “Since then, counter-terrorism has been my life’s work with a number of different federal agencies — pretty much working in the realm of explosives and threat assessment.”

Mast said he believes the terrorist planning the next attack is already in place in America.

“They are really walking in and among us. They are out at the same grocery stores, at the same gas station,” he said.

“I don’t say that lightly at all. There is very little that pains me more to say. The fact that my friends, potentially my family, people that I’ve known with have to witness the kind of evil that I witnessed overseas — there is nothing that discourages me more,” he said, adding, “That’s the reality.”

Looking back, Mast said Americans have already gotten a taste of what is coming from the attacks in San Bernardino, Chattanooga, Fort Hood, and the Boston Marathon bombing.

“The list goes on and on,” he said. “The attempt is to make Main Street America the new battlefield for Islam, and this is not a pleasant thing, especially for all of us who have really seen this overseas.”

“I don’t think that we should be in a competition to be more evil than these individuals,” Mast said. “But this enemy is evil and violent, and I don’t believe we’re going to be able to defeat them until we have a commitment to be more violent than they are.”

Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Eastern.
