On Sunday, two “legally armed” citizens intervened in a shootout between New Yorkers in a Walmart parking lot, ending the exchange of gunfire and holding the suspects at gunpoint until police arrived.
According to WCSH 6, Augusta police say Kwiesha “Reggie” McBride of Harlem, New York, was sitting in one car in the parking lot, and Frankie Dejesus of Rochester, New York, was sitting in another, when they began shooting at one another during the incident that occurred in Augusta, Maine.
“Police said one suspect exited their vehicle to confront the occupants of the other” when there was a pause in gunfire.
At this point, the bystanders stepped in and held both the suspects in both cars at gunpoint until police arrived.
Daniel Chavanne, one of the bystanders, said he drew his Glock handgun and intervened as a way to “uphold the sanctity of the community.”
The New Yorkers, McBride and Dejesus, were both arrested and charged with “Class C reckless conduct with a firearm.” Additionally, McBride was charged with “Class B aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs (heroin)” and Dejesus with “Class B aggravated assault.”
