A New York City teen said she owes her life to a heroic pit bull who saved her from an attack from an attempted rapist.

Maya Fairweather, 18, said she took her boyfriend’s five-month-old pit bull, Apollo, for a walk in the park, Fox News reported.

She let Apollo off the leash to play, then felt something tug behind her. At first, she thought it was her boyfriend, but then realized it was a complete stranger, who tried to push her to the ground and remove her pants.

“I fell down on my hands,” Fairweather said to the New York Post. “I just closed my eyes because they say that if you see their face, they will kill you. I froze. I was really scared.”

It was then that Apollo sprung into action and bit the attacker’s leg, giving Fairweather a chance to break free.

The attacker struggled to free himself before he ran away.

“I heard him say, ‘Fuck!’ and I was able to run away. I ran across the street,” Fairweather said, adding that the pooch had never bitten anyone before.

Police are still looking for the attacker.
