The so-called epicenter of the “Never Again” gun-control movement has actually seen a drop in registered voters in the 18-25 age group after the February 14 shooting at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported on Monday that “there has been a drop of 690 registered voters in Leon County since Feb. 14 among the youngest voting-age group,” according to data from the Leon County Supervisor of Elections office.

Tallahassee has been the epicenter of the “Never Again” protests, with Parkland activists staging rallies and confronting Florida lawmakers to pass more gun-control legislation. But the Democrat noted the “the noise, speeches and carnival-like atmosphere have not produced a number of new young voters.”

According to the report, “between October 2015 and February 2016, Leon County saw an increase of 422 voters in the 18 -25 group. Jump ahead two years later and the same four months show a decrease of 1,368 voters.”

In addition, “Tallahassee has seen registration among younger voters drop by 4,673 since March 2017.”

Parkland activists like David Hogg have been working overtime to mobilize young voters to vote out Republicans. But despite all of the national hype the Parkland activists and their actions have received, their activism has not even inspired young voters in their own backyard to register in droves.
