Congressional candidate Katie Porter (D) wants to turn CA-45 blue and force California gun control on the entire country.

She is a vocal opponent of the NRA and wears her Moms Demand Action endorsement as a badge of honor.

Porter’s campaign website quotes her saying: “You know what I am fighting for? A ban on assault weapons so that dozens don’t die in a matter of minutes, mandatory background checks on all gun sales, and a healthcare system that provides comprehensive mental health treatment.”

She added, “Orange County families have made their feelings heard, time and again, that common-sense gun protections are our values. That’s why I am here today, and that’s why I am running for Congress – to stand up to special interests like the NRA and stand up for Orange County families.”

Ironically, California has had an “assault weapons” ban and “mandatory background checks on all gun sales” since the 1990s, but that has not prevented the state from witnessing a string of heinous high-profile shootings. Those shootings include the May 23, 2014, Santa Barbara attack (three shot dead, three stabbed to death); the December 2, 2015, San Bernardino, attack (14 killed); the October 8, 2016, fatal ambush attack on two Palms Springs police officers; the April 18, 2017, Fresno shooting (three killed); the March 9, 2018, Yountville Veterans Home attack (three killed); and the September 13, 2018, Bakersfield attack (five killed), among others.

Yet Porter speaks of gun bans and background checks as a solution, despite their demonstrable failure.

Porter is endorsed by Gabby Giffords’ gun control group. The group praises Porter for standing against the NRA’s efforts to protect the Second Amendment.
