According to Apple support, the company’s recently introduced credit card can be damaged by leather wallets and denim jeans — two of the materials it is most likely to come into contact with. The Silicon Valley powerhouse has gone so far as to publish a guide on how to “safely store and carry” the Apple card.

BBC News reports that Silicon Valley tech giant Apple is now warning owners of its newly released credit card to keep the cards away from leather and denim, which could cause “permanent discoloration” according to the firm. The card, which is a plain matte white similar to many of Apple’s other products, and made of titanium, was designed to be eye-catching and stand out from other cards.

But many users are not happy that the card appears to be so delicate, with Apple even being forced to publish a guide on how to “safely store and carry” their Apple card. Unlike the majority of debit and credit cards, Apple’s card can’t simply be placed in your wallet and left there. The guide warns that even storing the card alongside your other credit cards could cause damage.

One Apple employee on Twitter stated: “I can say from two months of having the card in my leather wallet, it no longer looks pretty.” Alex Stamos, Facebook’s former chief security officer joked on Twitter: “When not in use, Apple Card should be returned to a uniformly lit white cube.” Others joined in mocking the tech giant.

The card was developed with help from Goldman Sachs and Mastercard and was announced in March as the firm to attempts to offer more services than devices. Apple is also starting its own television streaming platform, a gaming portal, and news app. The Apple credit card is available to individuals in the United States, a release date for UK customers has yet to be announced.
