MSNBC announced Monday that the “Ed Show” will return to weekdays starting August 26. Host Ed Schultz will take the 5pm ET Monday through Friday slot, which has been held by “Hardball,” host Chris Matthews for years.

“Hardball” also broadcasts at 7pm ET, which will now be its only broadcast time.

In what has largely been seen as a mistake, earlier this year, MSNBC cancelled Schultz’s weekday show and gave the slot to Chris Hayes. Shultz was moved to weekends.

Hayes has not only failed to increase ratings in Schultz’s old timeslot; his numbers are worse.
